ABSTRACT

This chapter describes how the evaluation is done, how to recognize a good job on the part of the rehabilitation counselor, how to recognize a bad job, and what to do if we are not satisfied with the service. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) rests on the premise that disability does not mean inability to work. ADA requires employers to make reasonable modifications to the workplace so that persons with disabilities have access to it. A great many employers are reluctant to hire people with disabilities, especially people with back or neck problems or with chronic pain due to a work injury. Work provides continuing opportunity to solve problems and so has the potential for delivering pleasure and curing our boredom. One of the more interesting findings about the relationship between work and chronic pain is that work in a decent environment seems to be good medicine for chronic pain.
