ABSTRACT
The SpinTek high-shear rotary ultrafiltration system was effective in concentrating oily feeds from about 5% oil to as high as 75% while maintaining a high permeate flux. The decoupling of the turbulence promotion (used to reduce concentration polarization) from feed pressurization by rotating the membrane was the primary reason for the increase in system performance over that commonly observed with conventional cross-flow membrane systems.
