ABSTRACT

Library management requires statistics to address a variety of issues, such as staffing needs, facility planning, and budget forecasting and fiscal management. The state and federal governments require management statistics for state and national data gathering activities for planning and comparison. Florida’s College Center for Library Automation (CCLA) is a statewide project providing library automation to the twenty-eight public community colleges of Florida, through LINCC, its automated network. Utilizing software from Data Research Associates, the system consists of a union bibliographic database, borrower database, and item file shared by the libraries. CCLA is developing a data element dictionary to define each element in the statistics package. Information on which state or national statistical survey utilizes this data will also be included. The Florida State Board of Community Colleges is required by law to review instructional programs every five years. In 1996, a program review was conducted for the Library and Learning Resource Centers at the state’s 28 community colleges.
