ABSTRACT

Pineapple is a tropical fruit commonly found and consumed in Indonesia. The pineapple skin is a waste product from this process and usually mixed with banana peel to make organic fertilizer. While the unused waste can pollute the environment, the pineapple skin has potential to be used as the main material in jewelery-making due to its unique texture. The possibility to use pineapple skin in jewelry products is highly likely, not just for reducing the waste that might pollute the environment but also to develop the potential of the region that produces pineapples. In this experiment using pineapple skin as the main material for a jewelry product, the target market is adult women aged 19–35 years. This research process uses qualitative methods, data collecting through literature studies, interviews, and questionnaires. The data is analyzed with the material experiment method. This research aims to show the repurposing of an organic waste as an alternative solution in managing waste.
