ABSTRACT

In Indonesia and Zimbabwe, entrepreneurship has become a very popular option among women. The high rate of entrepreneurship as a career choice among women is attributed to factors that are specific to women in these two countries, which may also possibly relate to other countries. The purpose of this article is to understand the variables and their interrelationships that lead to sector crowding in entrepreneurship among women in Harare city, Zimbabwe and Bandung city, Indonesia. A phenomenological and comparative qualitative approach to research was adopted for this study to help the researcher gain a deeper understanding of the experiences of Bandung and Harare women entrepreneurs. Little has been known in the extant literature until now concerning the sector preferences in women entrepreneurship in both of these cities. As a comparative study in the context of Indonesia and Zimbabwe, this study therefore sought to open some space for different points of view.
