ABSTRACT
This project showcases how District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is undertaking the largest transportation project in its history in an extremely challenging environment. The presentation will describe the procurement, design and construction of this one-of-a-kind signature arch bridge in the Nation’s Capital. The challenges associated with developing a signature bridge in a price competitive design build procurement will be presented. The presentation will share with the audience the extreme level of effort and bid phase cost that goes into pursuing and delivering signature bridges under a design build format. The presentation will also discuss the risk of delivering these types of projects and how the owners have successfully transferred almost all risk to the design build teams.
