ABSTRACT

Nutraceuticals are a group of products, natural or synthetic, that contain both nutritious and pharmaceutical agents. The products are more of a gray area between foods and drugs, but their bioactives essentially possess properties that fall well within both categories. Nutraceuticals present a field that is yet to be exhausted and developed. Every year, seasons almost oversupply a bulk of biomass of fruits and their residues which are mostly underutilized and find themselves in dumpsites. If deliberate investments were focused on these, a robust nutraceutical industrial revolution at a professional scale would contribute to a massive recovery of nutraceutical bioactives and the production of their derivative products to improve health and well-being of the general populace. An improved health status of a population is a key recipe for socioeconomic development. The future with nutraceuticals is rich with potential specialized nutraceutical products 22in various fields of life and for the exploration of a relatively new field of “nutraceuptides” where potential combination effects and therapies of nutraceuticals and peptides from animal venom would be the center of focus.
