ABSTRACT

Due to all-encompassing human immersion in different activities, ecosystem has been contaminated, which causes adverse effects on living beings and also disturbs the sustainability of the ecosystem. Heavy metals have higher potential of polluting soil, water and air. These are naturally present in the earth and become rigorous due to human activities most commonly from mining, household waste, incineration industrial wastes and agricultural loads. Heavy metals include Arsenic (As), Cadmium (Cd), Iron (Fe), Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg), Zinc (Zn), Copper (Cu) and Manganese (Mn), which enters with human body through food, water and air. Organic and inorganic pollutants are responsible for the changes in natural biogeochemical cycle and these pollutants are becoming a threat for the entire biosphere. According to a study, the health of more than 10 million people of the world in different countries is threatened by these pollutants. Application of efficient fungi along with suitable host plant is a suitable and cost-effective approach for remediation of contaminated agro-ecosystem.
