ABSTRACT

Solid dosage forms are being used since ancient days, tablets and capsules have emerged as the most popular solid oral dosage form. Conventional approaches to modify or control the drug release from a solid dosage form include delayed-release through the enteric coating, extended-release or long-acting, microencapsulation and pulsed release solid dosage forms. Solid dosage forms as oral delivery of drugs are considered by the health industry as one of the most appealing routes of administration. The majority of the recent developments in solid dosage forms have targeted to increase oral bioavailability and drug targeting. Chemical interactions may cause degradation of the active ingredients. Emerging technologies in solid dosage form have also significantly reduced the drug excipient and excipient-excipient interaction thus avoiding stability related issues. Paracetamol issue of high drug loading was also addressed by the 3D printing technique. The 3D printed tablets exhibited good physical and mechanical properties such as friability, weight variation, breaking force.
