ABSTRACT

Cold spray (CS) technology is a relatively innovative advanced manufacturing method where coating production, repair of machine components, and additive manufacturing applications can be performed. In CS deposition technology, thick and dense layers are produced with the spraying powders on the substrate at high velocity. Deposition on the substrate material occurs when the high kinetic energy provides mechanical interlocking. The process is a method of solid-state deposition since its operating temperatures are lower than the melting temperatures of the sprayed powders. Composite deposition layers can be produced with sprayed powder mixtures without any significant microstructural change on the substrate. CS technology is also used to repair defects and damages of machine parts that occur under operating conditions. This method is evaluated in the “Green Applications” class due to the recovering of damaged parts. CS technology enables the damaged machine parts to be repaired without the need to replace them. Especially in the industries with high production cost, provides economical and time savings. Also, CS technology is used as an advanced manufacturing method such as additive manufacturing. In this way, CS technology includes the advantages of additive manufacturing technology since it is a fast deposition material technique. In addition, green applications (repair, additive manufacturing, and anti-pathogenic material production) can be feasible using the CS process. In this section, CS technology, process parameters, and its green applications were examined in detail.
