ABSTRACT

This paper is focus oriented on cultural universe of Guinea-Bissau to contribute to the valorization and the dissemination of traditional knowledge. This study is based on design-methods, handicraft culture and design for periphery. The authors intend to prove that it is possible to innovate and promote the craft of Guinea-Bissau with a didactic project, developing projects with a productive network between Portugal and Guinea Bissau. This notion may reinvent a model established on craft-design collaboration that aims to redesign all craft industry. The project is developed with undergraduate students and artisans. This study contributes to local craft expansion and design practice. This research also contributes to S2M 2019 as supply to reuse, remanufacturing, disassembly and recycling techniques and think permanently on design education issues. With this idea in mind, the authors aim to prove that the connections between the academy and the local context can stimulate sustainability, innovation and internationalization.
