ABSTRACT

Recognised as a complex system, fashion is affected by other complex phenomenon such as globalization, overconsumption, human labour exploitation, sustainability, etc. Fashion designers are constantly challenged to find the appropriate resources, and to work collaboratively to solve unpredictable problems. Fashion design education was expected to embrace fashion’s non-linear dynamic, its changeability and adaptability. Nevertheless, traditional models of education still value a fixed, controlled and linear acquisition of knowledge and skills. It is this paper view that there is an opportunity to explore new models of education for the fashion sector. The collaborative, online learning model for fashion design (COL4Fashion) was elaborated in previous papers, part of a broader research about fashion design higher education. In this paper, the COL4Fashion will guide the development of a fashion design online course, discussing not the content, but the learning components, its limitations and potentialities in promoting a more meaningful and prospective learning experience.
