ABSTRACT

This present paper fulfils a parametric study about heat exchangers with extended surface. These finned tube heat exchangers commonly used in industry, household and automotive industry. With the use of different type of fins a much higher heat transfer area can be achieve. However, while this extra surface advantageous for the heat transfer area, disadvantageous for the heat transfer coefficient. This current research focuses on the effect of the size of the transversal fins to the heat performance of the finned tube. Numerical CFD-simulations carried out to investigate the air side flow and heat transfer characteristics. Using the result data and previously published experimental data, new correlation for estimation of heat transfer coefficient have been established.
