ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to understand the business model of social enterprise by applying the business model canvas. It aims to determine whether the canvas fully captures social enterprise. The study uses the case of Indonesia Mengajar, a social enterprise. It uses the interpretive paradigm and qualitative methods. Primary data is collected from interviews with IM’s manager, while secondary data is used for triangulation. Importantly, the data is analyzed with a grounded theory approach. By completing BMC with a literature review and critical analysis of IM, social enterprise mission’s is its raison d’etre. Having impact and measurements is crucial when a social enterprise is attempting to make a change, ensuring they are central to sustainability, though they are not included in the canvas. This study is expected to social enterprise in achieving its mission and maximizing its impact on society.
