ABSTRACT

The incorporation of piezoelectric nanogenerator energy harvester and energy storage into one device allows the mechanical strain or energy to be directly stored as useable electrical energy and also provides a sustainable and maintenance-free power source. The intermediate step of conversion from mechanical piezoelectric to electricity and electricity to stored energy is done away with. The conventional separator is replaced with a piezoelectric material, which when compressed generates piezo-potential that drives electrode-active ions, to charge batteries or supercapacitors. This technology paves a way for the development of autonomous electronic devices. This hybrid system boycotts the energy that could have been lost in the external power-management circuits for a non-integrated system.
