ABSTRACT

The tool consists of a typology of mechanisms to transfer knowledge from Facilities Management (FM) to a building project. The typology describes several essential mechanisms that can be used independent of each other or in a combination – for instance, continuous briefing together with continuous commissioning. The tool puts practitioners’ focus on the transfer of knowledge from FM to building projects, and it helps them to consider specifically how they can ensure an efficient transfer of knowledge in the individual project and thereby possibly make the coming building more FM friendly. The typology can be used by leading staff in FM and building client organisations as decision support and a basis for a dialogue between them in planning and organising building projects. The typology shows which principles for transfer each mechanism utilises as well as which ones practitioners can use in the design and the construction phases.
