ABSTRACT

The tool is a general method to assess, how information technology (IT) provides added value to Facilities Management (FM). The method builds on an understanding of added value, which involves a fundamental distinction between efficiency and effectiveness. The tool is particularly suitable to be used by project managers and developers involved in IT projects in FM organisations, but the principles in the tool can also be used on other areas. The tool is based on a combination of a number of concepts, such as the FM supply chain, IT functionality and Value-Adding Management. It includes the following three steps: analyse the IT solution by using a model of the FM supply chain; assess the increase in efficiency and in effectiveness, as well as the functionalities of the IT solution; and assess to which degree the IT solution contributes to Value-Adding Management and whether added value is created.
