ABSTRACT

Benchmarking of environmental building performance and mapping of the underlying processes through relevant information technology (IT) systems in Facilities Management (FM) has had its challenges in practice. There are IT systems such as Integrated Workplace Management Systems (IWMS) and Energy Management Systems (EMS) that can monitor and report on environmental building performance. Improving environmental building performance plays an important role in the sustainable transition, and there is a need to study the effects of IWMS and EMS implementation for environmental building performance in FM organisations. The target group for the use of identified environmental categories and their key performance indicators are stakeholders, such as property owners, real estate managers and facility managers, who aim to visualise and improve the environmental performance of their property portfolio using IT systems like IWMS and EMS. The optimisation potential can be visualised through continuous collection, visualisation and analysis of actual performance data on various environmental categories.
