ABSTRACT

One of Centre for Facilities Management’s projects at Roskilde University concerned ‘information and communication technology (ICT)-based innovation in the Facilities Management (FM) supply chain’. The literature review focused on the introduction and diffusion of ICT in supply chains. In relation to the external environment, factors such as customer/provider dependence, competitive intensity and intensity of information technology (IT) activities are included in the model. Regarding the organisational environment, management’s IT knowledge includes the degree of centralisation and formalisation of the IT departmental structure. ICT suppliers and consultancy companies have a more flexible position in relation to the FM supply chain, as they can both provide services to the customer’s core activities and to internal FM functions and FM providers. The identified advantages of introducing ICT systems in FM and the organisational challenges that the introduction of such new technology implies is well known.
