ABSTRACT

This chapter proposes a model for mechanisms to transfer knowledge of Facilities Management (FM) to building projects to make final buildings more FM friendly. Thus, knowledge can be pushed from FM to building projects in terms of competences by directly involving persons with knowledge about FM or in a codified form. For building projects, the tool can be used by managers and staff on the strategic level in FM and client organisation, and their consultants in arranging the organisation, communication and form of collaboration in building projects from strategic briefing through all phases to evaluation. Front-end knowledge transfer focuses, as mentioned, on the requirements of a building, while back-end transfer focuses on validating the building’s performance. The Danish building code set specific requirements in the energy frame of buildings in which the designers must document as fulfilled by energy calculations.
