ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the relationships between support functions and core business and which forms of relationships are seen as most appropriate for strategic and operational support functions. It utilizes the term core business for the part of a corporation responsible for the primary activities. The core business is marked with bold lines and types and include programme production and chief editorial. In connection to a reorganisation of technology functions in Danish Broadcasting Corporation in 2004 it was decided to introduce a new type of resource management called information technology governance involving establishment of a technology council with representatives from the different directorates. For Facilities Management (FM) provisions with a differentiation in relation to various internal customers, de-centralised decision-making seems to be the obvious solution. The analysis of FM in relation to the corporate value chain identified a particular support value chain.
