ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses experiences from centralising real estate management and contribute with timely input to the municipalities’ ongoing efforts to strengthen the organisation of real estate management. In January 2014, Svendborg Municipality opened a new Facilities Management (FM) centre, the Centre for Real Estate and Technical Service. FM organisations in private companies can similarly learn from the municipal experience, although there may be differences in facility types and success criteria. The establishment of a central FM organisation is considered in many Danish municipalities to enable better coordination between the building client role and the building operator role. In 2011, the technical service personnel in Ringsted Municipality were united in one central unit for building operation, and in 2014 the centralisation was continued with the merger of the former Municipal Properties and the former Road Park into one complete municipal property centre.
