ABSTRACT

The paper deals with the solar radiation analysis of a spruce tree stand based on its mesh representation optimized using the marching cubes algorithm. The analyzed mesh representation was obtained by the method of terrestrial laser scanning. The default method of the mesh creation was optimized using the marching cubes algorithm to specify the optimal cell size to obtain new regular data structure from the raw point cloud data. This optimized representation was used to calculate the solar exposure of the spruce tree stand. The results are the basis for detailed monitoring of the spruce tree’s health and microclimate on the level of the individual tree branches as well as on the level of the whole spruce tree stand.
