ABSTRACT

This contribution deals with effects of horizontal loads to masonry structures. It is focused on estimation of masonry parameters needed for modelling of horizontally loaded structures and their proper application when choosing the prestressing force and anchors for prestressing device. Test equipment for three-axial state of stress is used for determination of deformation characteristics. Potentiometers record the local consolidation. They read only the values of masonry displacement at the place of local stress and they are not affected by deformation of the whole sample. Measured values serve as input parameters for calculation of masonry modulus of elasticity which could be included in simplified numerical models for modelling of huge parts of masonry required for practical assessments. Furthermore, the models could be used for determination of prestressing forces and losses of prestress in anchors during the restoration of masonry structures.
