ABSTRACT

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a concept that has gained its position worldwide not only in the field of construction. Its width and absorption of all processes throughout the life cycle of the building supports multidisciplinary cooperation across the building sector. It is a concept that is constantly evolving and shifts its use. One of the neglected elements that surely belong to this concept are the simulations in the 3D BIM model, e.g. wind flow or sunshine/shading simulations. These simulations can help us in different situations throughout the life cycle of the building. They will find their application in the planning, construction, facility management or building’s demolition. Simulations have a very wide range and their results help predict future problems or crisis situations, which may occur. They help us decide on the materials, disposition, construction solutions or location of the building. This article describes several such of these simulations and their use in the BIM concept.
