ABSTRACT

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the ventilation effects versus the undercutting and injection technologies in fighting the unwanted moisture in a historic baroque masonry. The evaluation is based on the results from the realization of the first three levels of the operation by the Method of continuous steps (as per the ISCARS recommendations in 1999 and Charter of ICOMOS recommendations). The method was applied over a timespan of a few years. The data gathered from a regular monitoring clearly demonstrate a real effect of these controversial groups of technologies on the above mentioned baroque buildings. The data also illustrate the strong and the weak points of all mentioned technologies in a more general perspective.
