ABSTRACT

Human systems integration (HSI) is defined as a systematic process of identifying, tracking and resolving human-related issues to ensure a balance between the technological and human aspects of a system. HSI is term used in the United States, Canada and Australia; Human Factors Integration is equivalent term used in the United Kingdom. Humans have a significant impact on the operational effectiveness of a system and must be seen as an important component of any system. HSI identifies and trades-off human-related issues significantly impacting a system. The process of identifying and addressing conditions inherent in the operation or use of a system that can cause death, injury, illness, disability, or reduce the performance of personnel. The process of applying tools and techniques from organisational psychology, management studies, social science, information science and the system of systems approach to consider the organisational configuration, social environment and ways of working in a system.
