ABSTRACT

Interoception awareness (IA) is defined as the self-appreciation of information flow from the internal organs. IA has been posed as the center of the theory of emotion, suggesting that emotional feelings are heavily related to central representation and the perception of changes in bodily physiology. In fact, scientists have underlined how and when the perception of internal body signals could enhance and drive cognition and decision making as well as improving memory. In fact, heartbeats are easy to measure, and can be sufficiently discriminated by the participants in an experimental study. Since IA is important in decision making and is significantly increased in senior C-level executives and in successful stock exchange traders, it is a quality of potential interest for future young or candidate executives. To date, the research has pointed out that IA is linked to a better perception of emotions in particular classes of participants, who showed improved quality in their decision making with respect to controls.
