ABSTRACT

As in any competitive industry, university leaders must use such multi-dimensional skills as critical thinking, strategic innovation to effectively meet the increasingly diverse and ever-evolving needs of the students and boards they serve, as well as the people they employ. Research has also shown that when honed through the right experience and expertise, intuitive prowess can be just as effective as analytical skills in the executive decision-making process, particularly in complex, ever-changing environments. As a result, the university struggled to keep up with rapidly escalating enrollment demand at a time when the for-profit higher education industry was becoming a tsunami in the adult-serving market. Likewise, it provided University of Maryland University College with a variety of operational benefits. Of course, the proof that the author's intuition had paid off rested in the data constantly analyzed to measure our success, and the outcomes far exceeded even my expectations when it came to breaking records in new student enrollment.
