ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors summarize their main contributions and abbreviations used. They review potential methods in improving the energy generation process under varying conditions of scarcity and uncertainty in the Internet of Things era. The authors consider optimization aspects of the self-generated power using roof-top solar panels and local energy storage facilities. They discuss the grid evolution, the different types of this, advantages, and what it requires to integrate with the generated solar energy using smart meters, tariff applications, storage devices, and optimization of storage infrastructure. Smart grid systems can be described as a combination of distributed and centralized generators which are utilized to control the low- and high-level voltage distribution through automation systems of the different users, bringing better secured and reliable energy to these users for their respective uses. The benefits of the twenty-first century grid referred to as a smart grid are numerous, most importantly being in the Advance Metering Infrastructure.
