ABSTRACT
In this context, System integration offers a highly effective framework that is enabled with power tools and techniques. System integration is aimed at the synergistic aggregation of various elements to address a collective objective or set of objectives. A hallmark of system integration is that the functionality of the aggregated system is superior to the mere addition of individual functionalities. The adaptation of system integration techniques to monetizing shale gas offers a powerful framework and a unique opportunity towards innovation, research, and technology development. This chapter provides an overview of important system integration concepts and techniques that can be adapted and applied for shale-gas monetization. The main idea is to develop multiscale integration opportunities between shale and flared gases with existing and planned infrastructures to induce synergistic effects. Specific adaptations and development activities are needed to address the particular characteristics of shale-gas conversion and to handle temporal and spatial variabilities.
