ABSTRACT

Pyrimidine derivatives are utilized as drugs in the treatment of several types of diseases, agrochemicals, chromophores, complexes, metal sensors, solar cells technology, etc. Pyrimidines can be obtained by the synthetic chemical route, from biosynthesis (metabolism Gåö catabolism) and also in prebiotic condition. In astrophysical environments pyrimidines and purines should be present, may be condensed on the surface of cold grains, mixed with ices, since they have not been observed in the gas phase, in the interstellar medium. Considering the fact that in the case of optically active compounds, only one enantiomer shows the desired biological activity, it is absolutely necessary to develop the enantiospecific synthetic methods for pyrimidine derivatives.
