ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the progress in the elaboration of PBA–containing nanocomposites and focuses on the confined precipitation of PBA in a preformed matrixcontaining nanocomposites. The solubilization in water of the as-obtained nanocomposites gives stable colloidal solutions containing nanoparticles with a residual chitosan shell. Layered nanocomposites are elaborated by confined growth of 2D layers of cyano-bridged coordination polymers into layered double hydroxides. The elaboration of a homogeneous nanocomposite can be achieved by decorrelating the condensation processes. The facile synthetic procedure is versatile and allows the elaboration of monoliths with various and well-ordered nanostructures containing transition metal M2+ cations in various amounts. PBA nanoparticles can also be prepared within a mesoporous MSU-type silica. The precipitation of Prussian blue (PB) in a polycarbonate membrane instead of alumina is used to synthesize free PB nanotubes and nanowires The porous network of sol-gel silica, obtained by hydrolysis-condensation of a silicon alkoxide, is used as a confining medium to elaborate PBA nanoparticles.
