ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to apprehend the relevance of Gandang Tambua and Tasa arts music with character education using an ethnographic, qualitative approach. The data was collected through observation, interview and documentation techniques. Elements of the music were categorised, classified and analysed using semiotics. Therefore, the data was interpreted by understanding the signs found and associated with character values. Data validity testing was undertaken via triangulation. The results of the study show that: a. Elements of music contained in the art music of Gandang Tambua and Tasa are the main elements—elements of expression and game techniques; and b. the relevance of character values in Gandang Tambua and Tasa arts are expressed as discipline values, democratic values, love of country, friendly or communicative values, the value of responsibility and creative values.
