ABSTRACT

This study aims to describe how character values are developed through the application of character education through the art of Javanese gamelan music. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with research subjects that are principals, teachers and students. The object of this research is the character values in the Javanese gamelan culture. This study uses data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews and documentation. The results of the study show that the character values that exist in Javanese gamelan are very influential to those who play this music. Javanese gamelan is an alternative teaching material for applying character values. Javanese gamelan art unconsciously fosters good character and cooperation in the singing of gamelan music. Javanese gamelan art culture contains historical, moral and philosophical values that are conveyed to students during the learning process.
