ABSTRACT

This study aims to explore the efforts of the government of the Rote Ndao Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) District to revitalise the promotion of cultural arts through the medium of Sasandu musical instruments. This research is a descriptive qualitative study. The results of the study show that Sasandu will be included in the cultural arts curriculum in every educational institution (SD, SMP, and SMA, or elementary, middle, and high schools) by requiring there to be professional cultural arts educators, cultural arts books as Sasandu learning guides, and complete facilities and infrastructure for their students. The community response of Rote Ndao (overall speaker) was that Sasandu deserved to be used as a medium for promoting arts and culture due to its uniqueness (using the lontar leaf as a leaf or tree of life, a tree that gave a lot of meaning to the people of Rote Ndao).
