ABSTRACT

Music is a product of the society which also reflects the needs of the society. The culture of any society can also be observed from their music. Music and culture go hand in hand with each other. Children especially in developing countries are today living in cultural poverty. Many factors, such as industrialization and urbanization, have contributed to the cultural alienation of the children. Music education should be used to inculcate ideas that will help to shape the morals of every child in any given society. Music, as a tool in fostering moral behaviour, can be used as an instrument to give cultural orientation to children by establishing a link between tradition and modern life. Music, if properly planned and taught according to National Policy on Education, would help the development of the moral, physical, mental and social education for the children.
