ABSTRACT

The idea behind the integrated management process is that users, members of the Zone d’Intervention Prioritaire (ZIP) Committee and managers have a neutral place to exchange information and to develop sustainable practices in natural resource management. The various actions expressed in the several integrated management plans and in the Ecological Rehabilitation Action Plan are united under four main themes: human activities and water quality; fauna and flora; land protection, conservation and enhancement; and awareness and communication. An integrated action plan was made for each committee and presented to them for validation. In 2014, the Quebec Ministry of Environment and the community managers officially recognized the ZIP Committee of the Magdalen Islands as the primary entity responsible for the deployment of integrated management through the formation of a regional roundtable for our Zone. The meetings of the committees were conducted by the ZIP Committee to ensure a neutral and collaborative space where all members had an equal voice at the table.
