ABSTRACT

The present chapter deals with the different synthesis routes for the development of the Eu doped Gd2O3 phosphors. There have been various synthesis routes for the synthesis of Gd2O3 of various sizes, structures and morphologies. Eu doped Gd2O3 is a promising red light phosphor and has been using for the various applications in the field of the solid state lighting, bioimaging and drug delivery applications. The red light emission from the Eu doped Gd2O3 phosphor is due to the 5D0 to 7F2 transition occurring at 611 nm when UV excited. A comparison has been made among the various synthesis routes to obtain uniform, nanosized and defect free nanoparticles. The results on the basis of structure, morphology and photoluminescence have been compared. The present phosphor is expected to have tremendous applications.
