ABSTRACT

Nowadays lightening devises like television, mobile, light emitting diodes, traffic signals, laptops etc. are an integral part of our daily life. These display devices are fabricated by using phosphor materials. Moreover, phosphors also advantageous in bio-medical field like X-Ray imaging, Computed Tomography (CT scan), Magnetic Sesonance Imaging (MRI) etc. Lanthanides gives emission in an entire visible range, it has sharp emission peaks which benefits for good color purity and rendering. Therefore, lanthanide doped materials are very phosphors for lightening applications. This chapter deals with the concise explanation about lanthanide doped metal molybdate (MMoO4) and metal tungstate (MWO4). Here, influence of synthesis method and its parameters like temperature, pressure and surfactant on photoluminescence (PL) emission intensity has been discussed. As well as, effect of PL emission properties with co-doping of alkali metal ions (Li+, Na+, K+), alkaline earth metals and lanthanide sensitizers has been elaborated in this chapter. These properties, applications of molybdate and tungstates for light emitting diodes, temperature sensors, bioimaging have been discussed.
