ABSTRACT
This chapter illustrates plastics toughening and compatibilization using concentrated emulsion approaches. Toughing of brittle plastics can significantly broaden their applicability. Compatibilization of immiscible polymers also leads to polymer blends with stabilized morphologies that are required for common applications. Such modifications are achieved either by using polymerization in a single concentrated emulsion with dissolved polymeric modifiers, or by mixing two partially polymerized concentrated emulsions for continuous polymerization.
