ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the (concentrated) emulsion-based methods for the synthesis of polymeric core-shell particles. As structured composite particles consisting of different materials at core and shell domains respectively, core-shell particles may possess new and enhanced properties when compared to typical particles. They may find applications in coating, material modification, controlled release and other areas. These polymeric core-shell particles are synthesized by either seeded polymerization in (concentrated) emulsions, or by polymerization using initiator-embedded particles obtained via concentrated emulsions.
