ABSTRACT

A 9-year-old female with a history of ulcerative colitis is admitted to the GI service. She has a 1-week history of bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain, and abdominal distension. Stool studies were negative for infection. She has been treated with IV steroids; however, she continues to have 8 episodes of bloody diarrhea per day with a PUCAI of 70. Flexible sigmoidoscopy performed which ruled out cytomegalovirus (CMV) colitis. Surgery was consulted at this time. Second-line therapy infliximab started on day 5 of admission with no response.
