ABSTRACT

This paper reports on an initial stage of a project aiming at developing medical technology products handling characteristics, the equipment related education and training of the personnel as well as the quality and safety system around the technical use of the equipment, being also involved responsibility and organisational aspects. The working model presented, for developing medical technology handling characteristics, is based partly on theories of mental load and partly on methods to describe the goal of the work, its content and structure. This gives in combination a basis for establishing demands for means, knowledge and 414organisation of the performance of work, as well as for the design of technical and organisational development. Establishing a comparison between Swedish and Portuguese hospital work environments enables analysing the model in account for national differences.
