ABSTRACT
42With the continuous technological development, it has become certain that VANETs will play an important part in our emerging smart environments. It is becoming more and more difficult to assure the safe functioning of smart systems as they are becoming increasingly susceptible to malfunctions and external attacks, especially in dynamic environments such as the vehicular system. In this chapter, we have established a brief overview of the current vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) model and the constraints associated with it for security access, followed by a cataloguing in terms of the wireless messages attackers and attacks in addition to their appropriate defence strategies. Open research issues and challenges have been pointed out as well for further investigations and enhancements.
