ABSTRACT

Bermudagrass, Cynodon dactylon, is the most important pasture, lawn and soil conserving grass in the tropics and subtropics. The potential yield of bermudagrass is determined by genotype, available water, soil fertility, number of days with temperatures above 25°C, and management. Bermudagrass is adapted to a wide range of climatic conditions and may be found in arid as well as humid regions throughout the tropics and subtropics. Coastal bermudagrass was the first hybrid of Cynodon dactylon to be produced and released. It has been planted vegetatively on more than 4 million hectares across the southern USA. In much of the South, it is the principal hay plant as well as the most important pasture crop. The potential yield of bermudagrass is determined by genotype, available water, soil fertility, number of days with temperatures above 25°C, and management.
