ABSTRACT

This part introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters. The part discusses the topic of the estimation of land and water services from two points of view and both end up at virtually the same point. It provides insight into appropriate measures of land cost while neither discusses water services cost estimation in depth. The part aims to estimate the percentage of agricultural land's market value attributed to agricultural rents and government payments. It suggests that concern about US Department of Agriculture estimates of agricultural farmland value and also provides a useful discussion of legislation which deals with the inclusion of land in the cost and return budgets. The part describes a contribution to literature dealing with the estimation of land and water services.
