Could any book on fractals fail to include a contribution by Benoit Mandelbrot? The following selection was chosen to close the book. It is one of the first hints that these weird sets with fractional dimension are not merely another chapter from mathematics (interesting as that may be to mathematicians), but also a chapter or two in the applications of mathematics to various branches of science.
