ABSTRACT
This selection is the foundation of the theory of fractional dimension, now known as Hausdorff dimension. In Selection 4, Carathéodory shows how to define p-dimensional measure for a set in q-dimensional space. Hausdorff adapts that definition so that it makes sense even if p is not an integer. He goes on with what he calls “a small contribution“.
