ABSTRACT

Confusion concerning sprout damage test results from failure of industry to clearly distinguish purchase test and quality prediction test as conflicting goals where no one test can completely satisfy both situations. Only by thinking of the interactions between kind of test and kind of material being tested can we resolve the quandary of the industrial laboratory that, for example, Falling Number does not always agree with Mathewson Units or with Amylograph indications. Can we translate a complex situation into a business man's desire for a simple numerical assessment?
